You have very wide choice for that money. You can find very good headphones with much less money.
For example "The shure SE112" - those can be found for about $50 and have good reviews over the internet.

I suggest Beatz from Dr.Dre , they used to sell at 300 dollars but now the price has been reduced and they offer different qualities. You can buy a good quality for what you listen from Beatz headphones. There is also the brand of Skull Candy and with your budget you can afford to buy one high quality earphones from this brand too.

No buds ?
Go to the forums etc at http://www.head-fi.org

I prefer in ear and the choices are plenty so i don't know what to suggest but ask the pro's or wider community.

Expensive does not equal better either.
The tech becomes cheap in time and you can get good products for dirt cheap.

Thanks for the link, Spoetnik.  Some great info there...didn't realize how passionate some folks got with headphones.
