Asic Mining Ethernet Setup?

Hi guys,

I am thinking of getting into Asic Mining real soon (i know many people prefer GPU) but for now i am only considering ASIC Miners. Anyway i have a few concerns which i was hoping somebody could help me with first. Basically as i understand ASIC miners need to be connected to the router via an ethernet cable, however where i live they double your monthly fee if you install another router in your home so i am stuck with the one i have right now. This is a bit of an issue as right now it needs to be near the TV so the TV box can connect to the internet and get channels etc, i know its a stupid setup.

Anyway i saw a video where someone got a wireless bridge and connected his asic to that via ethernet but i have heard that this will affect mining profitability as it may be unstable. Is this true? and if so what other potential solutions do i have?

What is your network setup ?
You dont need another router ... what you need is a network switch

So your setup should look like this :

MODEM - ROUTER - NETWORK SWITCH
or
MODEM with built in ROUTER - NETWORK SWITCH , then you can connect anything to the network switch with wired connection.

If you want to connect 7 extra device with wired connection there is a switch for you :

If you want to connect 4 extra devices with wired connection there is a switch for you :

You dont need another router ... what you need is a network switch

So you setup should look like this :

A basic modem connected to the wall that came with my internet providers tv and internet package.

This will not affect the stability of the miner at all will it? For some reason i heard before that the connection may not stay as stable and may keep losing connection to the pool but don't know how valid that was and to be honest this way seems to be the best way to have a setup running by getting a network switch. Thanks for your help.

With a network switch it still means that i will need to have one ethernet cable connecting the two meaning a wire going through my house, sorry i forgot to mention that. That is why i was wondering if a network bridge would be suitable or not.

Yes i am aware that they sound like a plane and are hotter than a volcano Thats why i am trying to find the best solution to get it as far away from any ares in the house that we use often. Thats why i was hoping a wireless bridge could be used but dont know how stable it will be connected to the pool.

A wireless bridge going to give you a much higher latency time for your setup.
As for latency, the general rule is that you want the minimum latency possible. Any latency in your connection results in losses in mining efficiency. ( possible higher number of stale hares / invalid shares )
With the right setup , fast wireless bridge you still should be ok . You can reduce the latency time to connecting your miners to the closest mining pool server to your location. Probably you not going to get a stable connection with WiFi , like what you are able to archive with wired connection.
Im always suggesting to everyone to use wired connection if its possible for stability.

Thanks for the advice, if i cant find a decent enough wireless bridge then i think i will go with the network switch option just dreading having the ethernet cable running thru my house but i guess for the time being if my asic is making money i dont mind too much...

Tried mining with wireless. Gave up and bought myself a switch. The frustration, when you woke up and saw that your rig has been offline for the entire night, got just too severe.

I get it i would be super annoyed with that as well just considering the layout of my house running an ethernet through the house to reach where i will locate my miners is kind of awkward to say the least. From a little recent research i have done i came across these, any idea if they are worth it or not? Or will they be unstable too you think?

My last office had exactly that model and it was solid – definitely better than wireless. Apparently sometimes they can be affected by interference from other electrical devices but that just slows it down and you're after convenience and uptime rather than bandwidth.

Best : Network Switch + Lan cable
Good: Ethernet over Powerline
Last choice should be WiFi
