First of all, OPs, sorry if this is in wrong section, move if needed...

I have been trying for 2 days now to install my gpu drivers for ubuntu 16.10, resulting in at least 10 format/reinstall and im starting to get really annoyed with all the different suggestions online about setting it up. This is my last resort before i either go back to windows or i try a lower version of the linux platform due to my cards not having updated drivers on the current version.

I have 2x ati r9 290x/390x gpus and 1x nvidia gtx 680 that i am trying to get working. Not sure if having 2 different brands in one machine is going to cause a problem afterwards, but as of right now i cannot get the right software+configuration to get my cards noticeable by any of the miners i have.

If someone on here uses ubuntu 16.10 and a similar card and has successfully installed the drivers, please help me out or recommend a different version os and drivers so i can stop spending my days reading and failing miserably, id appreciate it, thanks.

Hi, first off, I'm no ubuntu user and I haven't dealt with these issues. I did however find a link that explains about different versions and how they work with AMD drivers:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/815591/ubuntu-14-04-5-16-04-16-10-and-amd-graphics

As far as I know it's never a sound idea to have an AMD and an NVIDIA GPU in the same machine but that I haven't looked into.

Good luck.

the nvidia should be ok for your distro 16.10 , but the ati cards arent supported since the release 16.04 came out , so dont waste your time . set for them if you can another machine with ubuntu before 16.04. im talking from own expirience , to run the Nvidia card install the CUDA-kit , drivers can be found on Nvidia-site   thats the easier part , CCminer 1.8.4 have a good collection of algos and performance (im using them on GTX650 &Gt730 running fine)

Xubuntu 16.04 LTS  Cuda 8.0  CCminer 1.8.4  Driver 375.26

hope this helps you a bit
