Are there any 'alternative' coins that are still useful for CPU mining?

Reason I ask is I have 8x HP servers each with 6x quad core CPUs in them and 24GB RAM.  I also have an office where power is 'free'. (to me at least!)

I know CPU mining for bitcoin is a waste of time, but is there anything useful I could do with this kit which I could later exchange for BTC?

I haven't tried it, but Lite Coins are meant to be good for CPU miners. That's about all you'll get using CPU.

Due note that CPU mining is more or less going to suffer the same fate for litecoin, as the gpu mining software now works really good with litecoin. Tho cpu mining might still be useful, to compare, i have a 6core(12coreHT) i7 3960x @ 4.5hz. and it does around 90 kh/s. The higher end amd cards are at around 800 kh/s. Sadly.

'Normal people' should not mine, it's a waste of effort.

@OP:

Where you will have luck mining with a CPU is with a coin that simply put: doesn't have much mining going on for it....its not really feasible in all honesty when you take into account electricity costs.

The only situation where CPU mining makes sense is if the CPU is idle and you don't directly pay the electricity bill, e.g., using spare capacity on your servers in a fixed-cost collocation.

I don't bother doing it even though I am in that situation. Environmentally correct I guess.
