Hi All,

I am totally new to bitcoin.
I've created an address, and i managed to buy bitcoin via a bitcoin ATM.
I received the bit coin into my wallet.

I went into settings > Network and i changed it to SOCKS5 Proxy and i clicked on restart bitcoin application.
Now when i open up the bitcoin wallet, it says 'Welcome to bitcoin core' and that i am a new user, and i need to re-download the block chain again.
What can i do to avoid this step? I've already downloaded the blockchain?

Is it possible to reverse what i just did? and turn off SOCKS5?

Have i potentially lost my bitcoin that i just put into the wallet (I've made a backup of my wallet.dat)?
Should i re-download this blockchain in a different folder or in the same folder and hopefully it recognises that it's already downloaded?

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,

There is no "restart Bitcoin application" button. There is a button for "Reset options" which will, as you can imagine, reset all of the options to their default settings. That means that you are not using a SOCKS proxy. The "welcome to Bitcoin Core" dialog will appear because that is where you set the datadir, and in the past, the reset options button would set the datadir to the default without notifying the user which caused a lot of confusion. Just set the datadir to wherever you had it set to before and it will use whatever is in there already, such as your wallet, the blockchain already downloaded, and the databases already built for that.
