i know IBM and Nasdaq has been working on blockchain for years. But now as China is joining the race, i wonder will China be the world leader in this area or Japan who acknowledged bitcoin as a legal currency.

Well both china and japan is strong and have the quality to lead such a thing, but one thing in my mind that im sure, if either japan nor china will reinvent or acknowledge bitcoin, i will still used it for good, because i dont really matter if what country is leader specifically china or japan, as long as it can be used for everyone

Japan and China just copy stuff... real invention will come from Europe or Australia, Canada etc. Even in the USA, people are a bit too afraid of the governent.

It's becoming like that everywhere to be honest.

While a lot of the inventive spirit has come from Europe and the West in general, there is a growing number of people who simply don't care and are, frankly, not willing to go out and actually do anything. The entire system is looking to collapse in on itself, and this factors in heavily as to which country will be "leading the charge" so to speak.

I'm expecting that the lead organization for the push forwards already exists. The question becomes, now, who?

You're Forgetting the point, IBM & Nasdaq has been working to reach his advantages from the blockchain itself. There is no leader in this area. the blockchain development is still keeping the decentralized aspect.
In my knowledge, most of them are working on the sidechain development.
But the japan's decision for accepting bitcoin will be the first in the bitcoin community. I mean to be an innovator for another countries or institutions.

No country, bank or institution will recognize bitcoin as a national currency because those corporations need to control the supply and the supply of bitcoin is controlled by unrelated whales. Also no one has control over the total supply.

but the hard fact is that Europe or USA will not invest much in this area, they've got a lot to deal with. China, however, seems to do whatever it can to lead this blockchain race. PBOC, SSE, Alibaba... Alibaba started a university to help people do biz online. And now Guiyang launched a college to train more blockchain experts. Guiyang is a city in China that issued the first whitepaper about blockchain development)

I think it's going to be from the people in China that are attempting to fight against their governments efforts of censoring them from being able to see the world for what it really is. At the moment, a pretty high amount of miners are from China based on the cheap cost of electric and cheap ASICS being used and produced over their. They have a pretty high chance of being able to stand to make a ton of money if they are the people that create something revolutionary for Bitcoin to get it out to the masses.

Real Invention coming from Western Nations I just don't see happening based on the pure fact that Western Gov's seem to have a pretty high lobbying from Banks and such and aren't going to allow this type of currency to take over inside their country.

China is in a different story as rioting against the gov happens their everyday but no one knows about it because the gov their owns the news company and isn't going to showcase this.

We don’t need anyone to lead the effort, if someone got a better idea for the development of bitcoin then expose the idea, create the code and let the community decide if they like the solution they propose, it is that simple, so like you see anyone can lead the effort as long as they have a good idea and the desire to make it a reality.

Japan has a good chance to lead the Bitcoin industry what with Satoshi Nakamoto to be a Japanese I assumed. However, China is a powerhouse because a big chuck of the miners are located in China. Anyway, we will see in the coming years what can be the development along this line. I do personally hope that power within the Bitcoin community can be spread evenly so that no group of people can easily manipulate Bitcoin only to their own advantage. Having one country playing some sort of a monopoly can be a big sad news for Bitcoin.

those who are working on it and you have heard about are working on the blockchain technology not bitcoin. and you shouldn't compare it with Japan and what they did.
in Japan they adopted "bitcoin" as a real currency and as a real payment method. but all the others are seeking a way to make an altcoin, a centralized ledger they control for their internal affairs mostly.

Japan and China just copy stuff...
Japan is known for innovative technology as much as Europe is.  I think you're just being racist towards Asians.

China will continue to be the world leader in mining and some other reasonably stable businesses which can be ran with Bitcoin.  However, this is not inherently a problem to decentralisation - the problem only occurs when this business is concentrated in the hands of just a few people.  Unfortunately, mining is concentrated in the hands of a few people, but this is nothing to do with "China" per se, as if it is one single entity.

So in that sense, no one will be a world leader because the only people that have control are the miners (which can be anyone and Chinese monopolies can be dethroned at any point by businesses) and the developers (as well as those holding Bitcoin).

None of theese u mentioned.
Bitcoin is true revolution but u need to think with fresh mind to grasp it. Companies think blockchain its some magic trick that will boost their income, they have no clue whats going on.
So young people that trully understand implications of bitcoin will push it to world to see. It will take time tho, 10 years i think.

Japan accepting Bitcoin just make me tends to believe the theory that Bitcoin is the baby of Samsung and Toshiba.
Also China control IBM so CHina is not new to the blockchain race
