Need some help with power cables from psu to run 3 gtx 1080ti.

Since I only got four 8 pin connections on the psu and each card needs two 8 pin cables, means I only have power for 2 cards. How can I solve this? Can I use a 8pin to two 6+2 pin and only use one cable per graphic cards?

This is how it looks like on the psu:



And here are the 2 GPU's already using all slots with 4 power cables.

I use the provided 2 x 6 pin into 1 x 8 pin 'Y' cable with the cards.

But then again my cards are heavily power limited (150 watts instead of 300).

8-pin is rated at 150 watts and 6-pin is rated at 75 watts so on paper, limiting to 225 watts should be completely fine.

I wouldn't try it on a multi rail PSU though.

Okey i see. I run my cards right now (only 2 connected) at 220-230w. So if i would use one 8 pin to dual 8 pin cable for each card I would only be able to run 150w as well without risking melting the connections? But the risers give some power as well right?

Just buy a better PSU!

Although, in theory the PCIE slot can also provide up to 75W Smiley

So you saying there are other ones with more 8pin connections?

Since the added 2 pins are both just ground, ie there's still only 3 wires running the current to your GPU (the other 5 are all ground) I really don't see how does that help in doubling the power output.

More than likely the specification says the wires should be thicker (like 14 awg or even thicker) and the connector itself has nothing to do with the total power output.

What I'm saying is as long as your PSU has the right wire thickness and the electronics inside it can handle 12.5A (that's 150W at 12V), the connector itself shouldn't matter whatsoever.

Having said that I have no idea whether your PSU can handle it or not.
