Hello I am trying to build 6-7 GPU mining rig with the z170a pro carbon gaming motherboard, but I am currently stumped on deciding which GPU to purchase.
I am currently looking at the XFX Radeon GTR RX 480 8gb (RX480P8DFA6). I feel uneasy about purchasing the XFX because they are so readily available compared to brands such as Sapphire.

The other options I have been looking at are the rx 570 and 580 model, but heard that they consume a lot more power. My question is, is it safe to purchase the XFX models for mining?

I have owned used and sold about 130 rx 470's and rx 480's

Of all these cards
1 had a bad fan -------------MSI red led gamer
1 had a cracked fan blade--MSI red led gamer
1 died would go blue screen -- Msi red led gamer
1 I shorted my fault -----------ASUS strix 3 fan
1 died Sapphire ---------------   just crashed system to a freeze.

this is 5 of 130 cards various makes ands models

the short my bad
the cracked fan blade  post office bad

so 3 bad of 130.

an MSI
an Asus
a   Sapphire

I had more then 20 xfx all good. Including the one you mention.

I find most cards that die  were run too hot .

or operator error like the asus I shorted
or the one fan blade the post office  cracked.

I would not worry   about the xfx  as long as you are not an overclocking push the pedal to the medal dual mining fool.

none of these cards do that well running eth and dcr maxed out pulling 200 watts or more.
