Wonder what people do to protect against power surge? Are there any recommended precautions to take? What are some good brands/units to use for protection?

I use a whole home surge protector installed at my panel. It costs about 150 CAD, and uses a 30 amp 2 pole breaker, this way if there is a surge everything in the house is protected.

Use a quality server PSU, problem solved.

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.
