Philippine President Duterte revealed that President Donald Trump called him up and asked him to talk to President Xi of China to act a "broker" with North Korea:

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday revealed that his conversation yesterday with Chinese President Xi Jinping was made at the request of US President Donald Trump.

Duterte on Wednesday had a phone conversation with Xi, and one of the topics they discussed was the situation in North Korea. On Saturday, Trump phoned Duterte to discuss the same issue.

In recent years relations between the United States and the Philippines not very good. Trump may thus wants to improve relations with the Philippines? Let me remind you that Duterte publicly insulted Obama and wanted to leave under the protectorate of Russia and China.

Oh believe me, they're VERY good friends.  Ever heard of the Philippines still complaining about its islands being occupied by China?

Philippines will not be able to survive alone so they will try to find a patron. I don't know who will choose Duterte, but I think that both option Trump and XI, bad for the Philippines.
