Not sure why pending transaction disappeared but did not return.

I did a trade with another person 4 days ago and since the fee was not as high. We're waiting for the mempools to be sweeped so the transaction is returned to my wallet.

The other persons wallet did show the transaction for the first few days. But today it shows no transactions pending but my wallet still shows that the transaction is in progress. Checking the blockchain it has not been spent.

I'm not sure what to do at this point please help.

Without hard data i.e. transaction ID we can't help you. What wallet you and your trading partner are you using?
Your wallet might be automatically rebroadcasting this transaction over and over again.
There are 2 solutions: rebroadcast this TX with higher fee or use transaction accelerator https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/

I did try using the link to accelerate the process  but I'm getting an error because there was an unconfirmed coin in this transaction.
I was using a blockchain wallet and i believe he is using a coinbase wallet.
Is there a way to rebroadcast on blockchain with a higher fee with out using the link provided?

You are spending an output from your first transaction . You should wait until the previous transaction is confirmed . According to viabtc you can use their accelerator to confirm your previous transactions .

There's nothing much you can do with blockchain and coinbase really. If you import your private key to more stable wallet (bitcoin core etc.) it is technically possible but it's a difficult process, I don't recommend it .

For now, You can either use viabtc or wait until the network forgets your transaction . Or you can contact miners like Quickseller and macbook-air to confirm both of your transactions .

EDIT: I successfully accelerated your first transaction on viabtc .
