That was it, SDK 2.6 and hashing away now!

Only doing about 150khash/sec on guiminer, but I can play around getting cgminer going and see if I cant get that rate up closer to 200

In cgminer

engine/core 900
mem/clock 1275
Intensity 15 (197-198) 16 (203-206) any higher will be unstable in the long run
17 gets around 217 max but very unstable

set your gpu autotune off as that will stop the gpu from oscillating and if you use after burner use it to control your fans while disabling it in cgminer. Afterburner seems to show a higher temp than cgminer and the amd OC util.

Fans will run 100% especially due to only one fan
added note: you should have this open box as it will keep temps down.

It is in a basement with cool ambient air, and mostly a test for the quad 7950 setup that I will be building later this week which will be open with a box fan on it.

I still have a few issues though.... my catalyst software is broken.  So even though the miner runs, I can't access/change any of my clock settings.  I am not sure if i should risk breaking the miner by trying to reinstall or install a different version of the software or what....  I can always fix it again I suppose   Roll Eyes

I probably will attempt a different version or 2 of the software, because this box is hooked up to a tv with hdmi, and the hdmi audio driver is also broken, so I have a mining computer that I can't use for much else (movies, games, etc) when it isn't mining, and I also can't tweak my settings to make it mine more efficiently.

Well the tweeking is done either through your Afterburner or Cgminer. It's all according to what you choose. However if you keep using guiminer (although it's easier to use) like all crutches they prevent you from getting your hand dirty and keeping you from really knowing how the hardware functions.

I'm not talking about coding but just knowing what does what. I have done my share of mistakes but when they happen I find them quicker because I actually know what does what.

Besides its more fun to have better control. I have had some weird issues with cgminer where I always have the original zipped file to recreate a new folder and the conf file copied to keep my settings so all I do it place it in the new folder and bang I'm working again.

When I first started I had no idea how cgminer worked but with experimentation I seem to have down pretty good. You could say less fearful of the unknown as I understand it now how it works.

Using a GUI just keeps things simple but when that is not available I would be back to not knowing. The drivers either work or they don't I can't see them working for mining and not for other appliances. If your using cgminer through guiminer to mine bitcoin then it should work for litecoin.

Also if it mines then the drivers work and you should be able to adjust them through cgminer because the program works in kernel mode.GUIminer probably runs in user mode. After burner has an option some where in there to have it run in kernel mode as well.

Just got mess with it till you make mistakes to learn from. Don't worry you wont break it if you don't let it get too hot or run with HW counts (hardware errors) HW is also monitored in cgminer.

I would just use cgminer, everything is in there.

So you are saying I can change the gpu clock settings with cgminer?

That would be great, but it doesn't help me with the audio issue so I think I am going to have to try a different driver, which might stop the miner from working again.  I can always roll back to what I have now and keep mining, but first I want to have everything in the computer working properly, then I want to tweak mining for maximum hashes.

Make sure that there isn't an audio setting that you need to adjust in the component that your plugging it into. eg blu-ray device or the tv as there could be multiple device sources where the audio could be channeled through. You should look in to that first before messing with the computer's drivers again.

Oh and look into the computer audio output options too

yea all you really need is cgminer.

nope it was working fine yesterday, now the computer says no audio device is plugged in, it has to be the drivers

worst case I just have no sound, not the end of the world, but it will bug me  Smiley

oh yes, restarted the computer a few times

computers sometimes are far from the logical machines we make them out to be.... like today after i got it working with drivers 12.6 and sdk 2.6, I wiped the drive again and did a whole fresh install, again...  thought it would be easy, since I now know what works....  it didn't work the second time around until after I installed the latest drivers and manually removed them to roll back to 12.6 for some odd reason lol

Wow man I feel for you. You're using windows 8 if I'm not mistaken. I been hearing a bit of chatter about issues with the new OS have not paid much attention to be honest. I wonder if its all due to that.

Anyways ....

Had to edit the typo. oops

it's possible, but I doubt it...  win8 is pretty much just win7 with a new UI slapped on top of it   Tongue

wow ....  just installed and uninstalled 6 different driver packages  Shocked  lol

I am finally all set with the latest 13.5 beta2, my miner runs, sound works, and I can see / use catalyst center to manage my oc settings

still going slower than I expected but now I can get out cgminer and see if I can't fix that too

My BTC mining still doesn't work....  but i am mining LTC at about 180 khash with guiminer.

I still get the same issue with cgminer, I run it, it crashes, the command prompt window stays open and gives me no output / errors to work with

When Cgminer runs it looks for a cgminer.conf file where it is instructed to use scrypt or not. That file is probably still there in scrypt mode.

This is probably the problem. Do this

Go in your cgminer folder find that file and post the contents minus your user and pass here.

I don't have a cgminer.conf, not yet anyway.  I just manually input the commands for it

So I would just open a command prompt and go to my fresh cgminer folder and then run it manually with cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://coinotron.com -u username -p password

I tried a few times adding the other arguments posted here and in other threads, but haven't had any luck with it....  at this point I am just happy it is mining.  I did see that I had a dyslexic moment the other day and was trying to work with sdk 2.6 and someone else had a nice working setup they suggested with sdk 2.4, which I have not tried yet.

Oh yea lol, that's about all I have been doing for the last few days.  I am hoping if I get my sdk / driver versions right like I should have the other day then I will be all set, otherwise I will have to just deal with only being able to mine LTC, which I can trade for more BTC than I could mine with the same setup anyway!

It's all good practice since I will need to have a clue what I am doing in order to set up my quad 7950 system...  cards and mobo arrived today!  Still waiting on the cpu and riser cables then it will be off to the races for real  Smiley

You're going to have so much fun. I always enjoyed a good build. I get withdraw symptoms after it's done. haha
