It's worthless to think spam attacks ending everything will back to the normal. Each new day more people start using Bitcoins, what means more transactions are being made each new day, on long term even without spam there will be many transactions waiting to be confirmed like now.
I don't think spam attack will ever end, but I agree if ever spam attack ends, I don't see transaction fee to decrease either since bitcoin price is increasing and massive adoption of bitcoin is happening every day. I think it will stay as transaction fee bidding battle if ever there is no update on bitcoin scalability fix.
Seems only the hard fork or a common solution with the agreement of biggest part of community can make the situation back to the normal again. As there isn't agreement, probably the first option will be executed... Unfortunatelly.
Yes but sad to say, those proposal to fix this bitcoin scaling problem had been in limbo for 2 years now. Since both camps are still waiting for the required consensus for the implementation of the fix for bitcoin scalability.
