I've really strange problem with mining with cgminer on my desktop machine which I also using to browse internet etc

Every time i run cgminer (I realized that it's doesn't matter if I run it with any extra params or just url, user, pass) and trying to do something else on PC (related with writing on kb of course) after several hundreds of characters my keyboard hangs. It's constantly pressing last key I was pressing and the only way to fix that is disconnect it from USB...  Huh

I connecting kb back to USB, next several hundreds chars and story repeats.

I was trying to see if something happening in cgminer window in that very moment but seems it's totally random.

any thoughts?

Have you tried any other miner? GUIminer is a good alternative to cgminer.

Yes. Other miners works fine but I like cgminer because it gives me quite high hashrate in addition with desktop usability (other miners that I've tested slows down entire PC)

Anyway, it would be good to find solution of that problem. I know not a lot people mining with cgminer on their working machine so they probably don't realize that problem even exists...  Sad

Sounds like a stuck key to me.  Have you tried cleaning your keyboard?

I've tested this on 2 different keyboards. With others PCs they works fine.

If cgminer is not running I can work on my PC all day without problems. As soon as I start cgminer, after a while (depends on how many chars i pushed, its about ~100-500) it hangs.

Are you using USB with FPGA's or ASIC's?

If your only GPU mining, I think, there is a command line option to disable USB scanning on CGMiner.

Also when this problem happens does closing CGMiner clear it up?

I'm only GPU miner on this machine. I tried to search for those kind of commands (related to USB, FPGA or ASIC ) without success.

EDIT:

Just tried --scan-serial noauto
But problem remains

Did you post this in the CGMiner thread?  This sounds like a possible bug so I would post it there for ckolivas and kano to chime in on.

What version of CGMiner are you using?

No. I thought there is a little chaos to someone notice my problem (people first thoughts about that would be "probably keyboard, PC, drivers problem, no point to bother").

Tried with 2.1 and 3.1 cgminer.

Tried with 12.1, 12.8 and 13.4 catalyst drivers.

And again - problem is only when cgminer is running. For testing I start cgminer, launch notepad and typing randomly. 1-2min and keyboard dies and it depends - sometimes dies without key-pressed-behavior, sometimes with. In spite of all I've to remove keyboard from USB port and connect it back to get keyboard functional again.

EDIT:

I pasted link to this thread in cgminer thread. Maybe someone will have an idea.

CGMiner 2.1? or 2.10?

2.1 is really old and before any USB support at all.

CGMiner 2.11.2

I think user ckolivas solved my problem in CGMiner topic.

I think I might found a bug.

Can devs look at this thread?

Try disabling the usb hotplug scanning. Various versions of windows can suck dicks that way.

--hotplug 0

So far this solution works! I'll test it all day and then I hope I'll post here SOLVED!

One thing that bothers me is that --hotplug isn't even listed in command list here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28402.0;topicseen. I think it should be.

It's there.  It looks something like this

--hotplug <arg>     Set hotplug check time to <arg> seconds (0=never default: 5) - only with libusb

Also
Usage instructions:  Run "cgminer --help" to see options

Glad you got a solution.
Take Care,
Sam

Indeed but I searched for hotplug this morning (with CTRL + F) and I couldn't find it.

Nevermind, my mistake was that I didn't run --help, just searched there.

Now everything works fine! Legit solution Smiley

Thank you os2sam for involving!
