Staking your coins, What are the risks ?

Never staked my coins, but been reading about it, Im interested in doing through Waves lightwallet and through POSW.

However, nothing is for free, what are the risks ?

Proof of stake itself. Does it work? How long was that tested?  What if someone hack biggest exchanges and take huge pile of coins. He can then become high staker. Oh my.
