Was just trying to buy Monaco, and whatever gas limit I tried the transaction bounced and refund back into myetherwallet. Is anyone able to explain an alternate way around this for me?

For any tokens you need a gas limit of around 200k, for just ETH its 21k. Increase the gas and try again and it will be fine. Unfortunately the gas you already spent is lost.
