First you acquire a list of email addresses, from whatever means. You additionally volunteered to help with anyone in possession of hacked email databases. In this case, Gox. Next you (er, not you, someone) send spam. Since Gox was a bitcoin place, this forum is a logical target. Your product has nothing to do with bitcoin nor Alternate cryptocurrencies. One of three things will happen.
1. It bounces. This address/email server no longer is working.
2. Nothing seems to happen. This address could still be good.
3. The recipient clicks the "Unsubscribe" link. NOW, it is solid gold verified, that this address still exists, it still works and there is indeed a live human being that is reading it.
In the case of #3, regardless of your project, this verified email address is now worth something. You could continue to send spam to it, knowing there is a human reading it, and/or sell it for a higher price.
