So it's been an hour an my transaction still has 0 confirmations. Does this have something to do with the fact that it's so late at night, or is there something wrong here?

If you didn't pay a fee with the transfer it can sometime take hours. Pay the .0005 fee in the future to support miners and it won't be an issue. Otherwise you just have to wait sometimes.

It depends on the size of your transaction. It depends on the value of the transaction fees that you include.  It depends on which miners have solved recent blocks. There is also a little bit of luck involved as well, since the protocol adjusts to keep the average time between blocks close to 10 minutes, but any individual block could come mush faster, or much slower than that.

If you provide a bitcoin address, or better yet a transactionID, we could tell you more about why its taking so long for your particular transaction.

They appear to have reported a problem on Twitter though:

Having a few issues with Bitcoind, blocks might be lagging for the next hour.
