The revamp of the multibit.org website Gary and I have been working on has just gone live at:

https://multibit.org

Please let us know what you think about it and if you spot any anomalies.

The webserver also serves up the online help for MultiBit.  This has changed slightly but should all be working now.
Again let us know if there is anything missing.

Hi,

looks nice!

Two minor issues:

  • I could not easily find a link to the source repository and to information on how to build it myself. I would like to connect a debugger to watch key generation step-by-step someday (paranoid me).
  • Scrolling is quite sluggish on Snow Leopard / Firefox 20. I think it is due to the background effect in combination with "smooth" scrolling.

0.5.9 is a great version BTW, I appreciate the fast sync.

Hi mjb,

There is a link on the right hand panel inviting you to fork the project on github. That gives you a link to all the code.

Yes the vertical scrolling looks fantastic but it does slow the site down (on my iPhone 4 especially).
I think we might have to tone that down or remove it or something.

Thanks for the feedback on 0.5.9. The various initiatives to improve areas/ functionality are finally coming together.

Cheers.

My bad! I looked for the word source on all pages. May I suggest to include the phrase "source code" somewhere - fork was not obvious enough to me (English is not my first language).

Good suggestion - I'll change it. 'fork' is not the first word you would look for when searching for the code.

I am by no means a professional website developer but I would consider myself tech savvy and I hope you wont get too offended at my feedback as I am not going to mince my words.

While I love your software, I find your website amateurishly designed.
  • The website has contrast issues. The grey font is a tad bit too light
  • Too many color used
  • Use at most 3 fonts but they should be complimentary (At the moment, the title font is too jarringly different)

Something like http://source.android.com/source/index.html would be nice.

Hi Cozzie,

Thanks for your feedback. I must admit I agree on the contrast - I have already tweaked it once for higher contrast and will have another look. (edit: Done and pushed to site).

For your other points:

+ Too many colors: We use white, gray, black, a red for titles+links and a light blue for "enclosed backgrounds". That is 5 colors and they are used consistently across the whole site for each usage (White and black which aren't strictly colors but you know what I mean).
Have a look at the google home page. Including the 4 colors of their standard logo how many colors are there ?

+ The title font is copperplate gothic. Why have we chosen this ? Well, it matches the MultiBit logo, and is used in the installer (and was used in the splash screen until I took that out for technical reasons). This is for across media consistency.

Copperplate gothic looks different to modern fonts because it is **old**. Look at the wiki. It dates from 1901 and its design motif harks back to earlier Victorian engravings on churchs etc. Wander around an old graveyard on a sunny Sunday and you'll see lots of copperplate on tombstones.

Copperplate gothic is actually a simplified version of the font used in copperplate intaglio printing. This dates back to the 15th century in Europe.

Because of its age, it is often used as the font on bank and lawyer office doors.   See what we are doing here ?
We are using a design metaphor that signifies age and establishment and stability. For money. It is exactly the same as why central banks use Greek columns in their headquarters 'face'.
