I have been watching the bitcoin cash ordeal, and can't help but wonder why they kept with the sha256 algo. I feel like people would have been more receptive for the opportunity for a new algo like nist5, which would bring bitcoin back home to the common user. In my opinion they got everything right except the algo. Bigger blocks and other improvements are great but it just feels like a missed opportunity due to how the network and mining has turned out so far.
