Hi there, I'm new to bitcoin mining. I'm wondering how best to optimize cgminer for mining bitcoins using my 7970. Electricity use is not an issue due to my current living situation.

Do you mean purchase hardware or buy specifications from someone whom has figured out the best way to do it? I don't need to buy any new hardware. I know I'm pretty late to bitcoin, but my costs for mining are literally $0. I can only profit from this. Even if it's just a small amount of money per month, it's free money to me.

Its pretty simple, get best possible cooling (water) and overclock.
Overclocking for begginers thourgt MSI afterburner, if you feel sure about what are u doing, use better software. You can get 700Mh/s.

One last thing - essential is GPU core clock, memory frequency wont help you at all

Cooling water is way underrated. Overheating can kill your machine

I've been planning on putting together a custom loop, but it's not in place as of yet. I'm not sure how far I can overclock this 7970. It's the Sapphire Vapor-X GHz edition. I read somewhere that the voltage is locked on them, so I don't know how much of an overclock I can get. I was really asking if there was a special way I needed to configure the cgminer client? If overclocking is all I need to do to increase production I think I can handle that.
