Newb Question: What is the tomato plant reference/meme?

It seems to be a response to people asking for money. Is that just a way of saying "look out - SCAM"?

Anyone can clarify the origin and meaning of the meme?

TomatoCage is a user on here who, among many things, points out scammers, and runs a thread to warn users about potential scammers.

So whenever there's an obvious scammer, people post images of a tomato cage in reference to the user

LOL. I thought it was some weird obscure reference to "the attack of the killer tomatos", (movie theme is that tomatos are evil and trying to kill people)
