Mining without ASCIs'

Hey Guys!

I m a newbie in the bitcoin world.
Having free access to electricity and internet, I wanted to know if there is a way to mine bitcoins without using ASCIs'.
I ve beeen trying to find the answer online, but with no success, so any suggestion would be welcomed

There are other coins you can mine such as Litecoin or Ethereum.  They use Scrypt and can be traded for bitcoin.
