Just curious.... how long would you figure it will take?

The bitcoin awarding, is it completely random, or based on a # of computations?

WOW - pretty cool....

So to get the default settings....  running 50,000 Mhash/s (is this the same as 50 Ghash/s?)
... you could buy this?
https://products.butterflylabs.com/homepage/50-gh-s-bitcoin-miner.html

And it would be $2500 and assuming 100W @ $0.15/kwhr it would generate $23235.83 USD in 3 months?

If that's the case, why doesn't everyone order one of these $2500 boxes?Huh

because it's vaporware until they actually ship something to customers who have already ordered.

Yep - I ordered a 5 GHs box about a month ago and they said it would be another 30 to 60 days before it arrives.

By then I will need a 25 GHs box just to keep up...
