Well, I'm going to be buying a laptop anyway and I'd like to get an MSI. I guess if mobile cards suck anyway I guess its not really worth the extra $100 for the 8970 compares to the model with the 7970...as far as mining goes anyway... Wink

AMD's Product Page.

Looks exactly like a Desktop version of a 7870, but with a lower core clock (850 vs 1050). All the other specs are the same.

It has all of the same specs as a 7970m, with the exception of a core clock boost of 50MHz.

Doesn't matter actually, look for instance in smartphones same CPU doesn't perform the same always does it. Software and other stuff..

Software only goes so far.  Although the new architecture may be more efficient, it would be foolish to assume that the performance of a 8970m will crush that of a 7970m.

Logic. Like is said it's the current top, with the 8xxx and gtx 7xx series not much different than the one before, but still.

It's a 7970M + turbo, it's been covered on several tech sites. the whole 8XXX series is a rebrand and the next gen cards will be 9XXX.

I'm curious how they are going to do that...won't there be confusion from the older ATI cards in the 9xxx range... Wink

Sort of. That's like saying people are going to confuse the Nvidia GeForce4 MX 460 with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 460. They're decades apart, so no one cares anymore.

Those older cards were made by ATI. These newer cards are made by AMD. Also, the older cards were called the "Radeon 9000" or the "Radeon 9800 Pro". The new ones are called the "Radeon HD 7850" or the "Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition". See the difference?

Really, this post was an excuse to look up those old ATI 9800 PRO cards, as I used to have one. Good times....  Roll Eyes
