I sent some BTC to get Monero using shapeshift.  I turned on my wallet again and it does not show my monero coins. It has been over 1 hour.

All it says is balance 0.00000000000 and (syncing).

Did I get scammed or whats going on?

Syncing means wallet just need to download blocks. So just be patient and wait till wallet fully syncing.
Also you can see your payment through http://moneroblocks.info/
