'Not an Investment': Internet Archive Defends Decision to Hold Bitcoin

The Internet Archive, the nonprofit digital library dedicated to providing "open access to all knowledge," has spoken out on why it accepts – and holds onto – the bitcoin donations it receives.

In a recent blog post, the organisation spelled out that it includes the cryptocurrency on its balance sheets – alongside other means of donation, including zcash – "to be a living example of an organization that is trying this innovative internet technology."

Well, even if they look at it as an investment, i don't see something wrong with its decision to accept and hold Bitcoin as part of their current assets. Bitcoin is also a currency and therefore anybody can use it for donation and any entity can accept them as such.

The man who flashed "Buy Bitcoin" cardboard also received some Bitcoin in his effort to promote the  Crypto King and we see nothing wrong with it as we live in a free world where people can transfer a part of their wealth to somebody else (or to an organization for that matter).

Let Internet Archive use the Bitcoin it got for any worthwhile project that can benefit more people and can help them spread their wing further.

They take a small gamble with this decision, but it aligns beautifully with their mission statement.
