I tried to auction 1 BTC Casascius coin earlier this year but unfortunately it didn't go too well. I thought I had taken into account everything in advance, but it turned out that I hadn't thought of actual delivery and payment part of the deal at all.

I'm now thinking of that if I am to sell the coin via this forum at all, I need to have a better idea of how to secure both buyer' and seller's back to finalize the transaction.

Many users suggest using a highly reputable user as an escrow, but unfortunately I don't think that's necessarily secure method at all. Neither part of the deal can't actually know nothing at all of random escrow's impartiality.

What comes to my mind are using traditional established institutions such as banks or perhaps an arrangement of two escrows.

I would require an method where it is 100% sure that neither part of the deal has any kind of risk of losing his/her goods/money. And in addition, there should be a possibility for the buyer to actually see the Casascius coin with his/her own eyes and check the public key.

Do you have any thoughts or proven methods of how selling an physical item over possibly long distances might best work out?

Thanks for your help.

What's wrong with ysing an escrow here? If you want they could also act as the middleman for receiving the coins too.
Plenty have dealt with escrows on this site for transactions worth considerably more than 1BTC and have had no problems whatsoever (as long as the escrow is reused and reputable).
Things can always go wrong (even when using banks) so I think using an escrow here is your best bet
In terms of shipping you can ship insured (which is costly) but covers you and the buyer in USD terms should anything happen.

No one will buy from a new account here on the forum without using a long established member for escrow. You can always try ebay instead if you like. Your first auction did not go well which will make bidders wary in the future. IMO you should name a reputable member of this community for escrow if you put up a new auction. That way if a buyer does not care for the escrow agent for any reason they will not waste time bidding.

Thanks for your thoughts AT101ET and BitcoinNewsMagazine.

What's wrong with ysing an escrow here?

For my generation, it was taught not to trust just anyone from the Internet. Seems that today, we order our food, share our car ride and hook up for dating from / with unfamiliar people online. So, it's a bit bewildering to realize that I am being considered "old-fashioned" or "overly cautious" for being sceptical and hesitant about sending money to an unknown person online.

Because of this, I would prefer using a generally and publicly known escrow, especially such for which transaction of this amount is like daily routine.

Though it really seems like the "peer-to-peer" escrow method is well established, recommended and trusted here on this forum.

I have to consider it. Insuring the shipment sound also like a good idea.

On the other hand, I could even travel a little distance for face-to-face transaction.
