Last night I was on twitter and found someone promising an instant 106% return if you sent them bitcoins. I wasn't taken in and told them I thought they were scammers (Their avatar was a pretty blonde lady)

Pretty blonde lady + Free Money = SCAM ALERT.

This morning I was contacted by several people who had actually fallen for this scam - testing the water by donating small amounts and then when investing a larger amount - finding that the scammers had run with their money.

More details can be found here: http://www.freebitcoingiveaway.co.uk/warning-bitcoin-money-doubler-scam/

According to Reddit - people lost 60 bitcoins to this new twitter account that had only just been setup.

Did you fall for this? Or have any details of who the scammer might be?

As much as I hate scammers, if you fall for this kind of scam it's kinda your own fault. Their greed/naivety was exploited here, and as the old saying goes: If it's too good to be true then it probably is applies here.

The most impressive thing about the scam is that in under 24 hours with nothing but a twitter account a scammer was able to walk away with over $40,000 of bitcoins. If I had no morals - I would be considering a change of career.

You guys know this scam dates back to the early days of Runescape right? Or at least was very present there. It's pretty old nonetheless Tongue

It's a lot older than that - people used to put adverts in newspapers and then get money in the post. It's just a new twist using the wonders of the internet.
