Hello all,

I have a few questions.

First, I have a Sapphire r9 290x trix OC. I get about 30MH's with it using it to mine ETC. The fans are going bad on it. I bought it on Newegg in 2014 and have the replacement warranty on it. Newegg warranty wants me to send it to them and send me a Newegg credit for it for $319. I could take that money and then get a RX 580 4gb card(is it worth while to add a bit to the credit and get an 8gb version). Would you do that or would you just replace the fans yourself?

Second, I also have 2 XFX HD 7950 DD cards. I have one in my rig I put in last night and it is only gettin 10.8 MH's. It is at stock speeds. I tried OC ing it with Wattsman and I can get it up to 12.8 MH but that is all. I am using Claymore's Miner v10.

Third question, Using Claymores Miner, how do you change the intensity levels of each card separately? Card 0 is the 290x and card 1 is the 7950.

This is what my config file reads:

EthDcrMiner64.exe -ethi 10,13 -epool etc-us-east1.nanopool.org:19999 -ewal 0x4caba6b3cef*********5d20ad7.**/*********@****.com  -epsw x

I have also tried EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool etc-us-east1.nanopool.org:19999 -ewal 0x4caba6b3cef*********5d20ad7.**/*********@*****.com  -epsw x -ethi 10,13

Nothing changed in hash rate when I added the -ethi 10,13

Please help as I am reading that I should be getting 18 to 20 with the XFX 7950.

Thank you in advance for help and thanx for taking the time to read this.

Go to whatomine.com and enter the cards and play around with the various options and see which one is most cost effective for you.

I like to look at the hash rates they show (which seem to be pretty accurate) and then divide those buy the cost of the cards and figure out the hash rate per dollar. You can also factor in the wattage which they also list to figure out efficiencies.

Do you mean HD 7850 on those "DD" cards?

If so, that's a reasonable to GOOD speed for those - I was only seeing 12-14 ballpark out of my HD 7870 cards when I was mining on those WITH a well-optimised overclock.

If they are 7950 cards, it does seem a bit low - try setting the memory clocks to either 1250 or 1450-1500, and you probably DON'T need to overclock your core much.

I did try raising the memory clock to 1150 and 1250 n turned up the power by 5% in wattsman. It ran hotter(60-65) n got me like 12.8 MH but it should b higher. It running at like 55-60 degrees with fan at 100%

The fans can be easily replaced by yourself too, although, since you were offered a credit of $320 why not even use it as a free upgrade? You bought your GPU, spent money, now you are offered to have your money returned.

Compare your GPUs hashrate with the ones you want to buy, even if the difference is minimal, you will have a new GPU which you would easily sell in the future.

Do you HAVE to return the original card to get the credit?

If so, it's worth it to upgrade to a newer, higher performance card like a RX 470/480/570/580 even at the current INFLATED pricing on those cards.

 If not, it's a no-brainer slam dunk.

I figured as much. Unfortunately I have to return the old card to get the credit. It's just the power usage I am worried about stepping up to an RX580. Are they easier on power than a 290x? Also, is it worth the extra money to get an 8GB version. I would use it occasionally for gaming but the issue is the price really jumps just to get the 8gb version. And alot of the ones that were affordable are out of stock. I can get a 4GB version on a RX 580 for the amount they are going to credit me but to get an 8GB version I'd have to cough up some money to make that happen. I'm between jobs now and dont want to trade in coin that I am holding. I hate cashing out on coins as you have to pay fees to do that. I originally bought this R9 290X Trix OC from Newegg using Bitcoin. Damn the money Id have would b worth a good bit if Id held the btc I bought this card with.I have honestly earned my money back on this card and am about to get a refund for it si I still make out. It's just that I finally flashed a modded stilt bios to it this past week and the fact that im getting a steady 29.4MH from it makes me sick to let it go.

Am I right to think that I should get 30-32 MH with an RX580?

Having 8gb of vram isnt going to really give you more hash rate will it? Its gaming where the extra vram will shine right?

The RX series uses HALF OR LESS the power of a R9 290, much less a 290x.

The difference in mining between 8GB cards and 4GB cards is that the 8GB cards are pretty much always 8000 Mhz ram CLOCK, while the 4GB cards are pretty much always 6600 or 7000 Mhz, NOT due to the extra RAM.

30-32 might be a hair high to expect, but 28-30 with a BIOS modded 480/580 8GB card seems to be the common ballpark.
