Avalon Miner Controller Issue

I have recently upgraded to some Avalon miners and for some reason I am unable to get this controller to connect.  I am by no means an IT expert but I can usually solve most of these problems but this one has me stumped.

Miners are hooked up to PSU, and to Auc 3.  All of the light indications are that everything is correct but I can't see the controller through my router so I cannot log into it.  I have tried connecting right at the router, re flashing the SD card, everything that I can think of and I simply cannot find it.  Any device that I connect either by wifi or ethernet shows up immediately.  Could it be I was sent a faulty controller?  I have searched the forums and online for this issue and it has not turned up any concrete solution other as of yet. Has anyone else had an issue like this with one of these controllers?

The controller is set to a static IP from Avalon by default. If you are using a different IP scheme/subnet you will not find it.

Ok, that makes sense.  Would you suggest I change my router settings then? ie. assign ip to each device.  Or is there a way to change the ip settings on the pi somehow? I am not sure how I could do that without being able to log into it.

Well right now. You can't tell anything since you flashed the sdcard.

Truly if you learn one thing is don't flash your software without asking us or someone what to do.

Do you live in the USA?

If you do I can mail a good rasp pi 3 card to you.

192.168.0.1

I can do

192.168.0.231

192.168.1.231

192.168.10.231

And you would look up the assigned number.

I definitely fall into the not an IT expert. When I was setting my controller up I tried to follow the instructions to change the IP address on my laptop, and was pretty sure I did everthing right... based on my googling knowledge; but I couldn't connect to The Controller. I then remembered that my 20$ DLink router was sitting there doing nothing, and that it shared the same 192.168.0.XXX Address, so I plugged it in and used my leftover Ethernet cables to connect my laptop and the controller.

From here it literally took me 30 seconds to connect to the Controller and set it to DHCP, or "Auto assign IP address". Unplugged it from the Dlink router and set it back up with my home network.

While its not the "right" way to do it, it's a little cheat if you have a Dlink router sitting around or a community buy sell trade website, which is where I scored my router a few months back.

Yeah a cheap router with the 192.168.0.1.  Will allow the rasp pi set at 192.168.0.100 to be found

How would flashing the card matter? It already comes flashed with the software from canaan.

you said you reflashed the card  in your rasp pi.  and I don't like helping people that flash software without asking first.
(been there done that)


So I have no idea if what you did  is a good copy of the card.  if it was done correctly  the address is 192.168.0.100

as for  your router

what  is the make and model  192.168.100.xxx  indicates  you use a direct modem  from your internet/cable provider and don't have a router.


if you buy this  router the address is 192.168.0.1
it would allow you to find  your rasp pi. if your flashing  was done correctly.

for me to sell you a card    with the address of 192.168.100.231    and ship to canada  is about the same price as buying the router from newegg.ca  and using the card that was sent to you.

Ok well thats what i found by searching the forum to try find a solution. Try to re write the sd card. I just re wrote the same image as what came from canaan. So there is no difference.

I thought trying to find a solution myself first would be ideal.

Yes its a modem from the isp. I will just get a router with 192.168.0.1

You can static your local IP to 192.168.0.2 on your computer to access the miners without going out and buying a new piece of hardware.

yes he can go to youtube and get the instruction on how to go directly from the pc eth cable to the rasp pi cable.

I have  laptops with the the following ips set.

192.168.0.1
192.168.1.1
192.168.10.1

there was a decent video on youtube that shows how to shift   his pc  to 0.x  vs 1.x

bu since he flashed the card there is no way to tell if the flash he did  is good until he has a 0.x router to pc

You have not or maybe you have sent 20 pms with screen shots on what to do to 6 or 7 guys only to find out most of the flashed cards were wrong.

so i just tell people buy a cheap router  rathe then spend the time teaching them to do it.

I think in reading through this I have figured out why when I changed my laptops static Ip to match the Rasp Pi I failed. I didn't realize I was supposed to run the Ethernet cable from my laptop to the rasp pi. I just left them connected to my home network. Live and learn. Maybe I will try again with my next controller... but I'll probably take the easy way out.
