Hi, everyone!
I'm thinking about founding the "Iced" Tea Party, a Moderate Political Movement aimed at fixing the U.S.!
Anyone have an eye on becoming the president?

The plan:
-Universal Health Care and more education spending by making extreme tax increases on the 1% and cutting defense spending by 50%!
-Follow Canada's lead!
-Force everyone on welfare (who is fit) to do public works stuff, and pay them well for it.
-Replace the 2-party Democrat-Republican System with the 2-party Iced-Tea and Democrat system.  The GOP is really screwing the country up to this day. (if you're gop, please don't feel offended, I'm citing the Gun Background Check legislation and the NRA guys)
-Release life prisoners that are suitable to live in society once again. (the US incarcerates the most people in the world)
-Strong gun control
-Revised Electoral system (check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wC42HgLA4k.  You can win the election with only about 20% of the popular vote)

As Buddha said, "The Middle Way":
Not everyone can be on welfare, they should have to earn that money.
Guns should be strictly regulated
Universal health care and better education is a must
Too many people are being locked up
Killing someone for killing someone else is wrong.

Anyone interested?
Post below!  I've read up on the legal stuff and I can tell you how to get on the ballot!

I must disagree with the gun regulation bit. Background checks are far different from a gun registry. Gun registries open up a Pandora's box of potential government confiscation and widespread legal threats. Background checks are simply being prudent with gun sales.

Other than that, it is a solid summary, even if it is a pipe dream.  Wink

If I can collect 50 BTC for a candidate that person can officially run for president!

Yeah, I like most of what he said, but not a registry. I didn't see that specifically mentioned though.

-Follow Canada's lead!

I'd recommend against following our current lead.  You sound like you're channelling Jean "I am the radical centre" Chrétien.

1. Socialism and more socialism
2. No.
3. NONONONO
4. That's the same thing.  The 2-party system is simply begging to be rigged.  You're only rigging it so your newfound party will be the neo-Democrats, and then it'll be Democrats or more Democrats.

But on the gun thing, as it's apparently popular nowadays...

What's your reasoning behind a single entity having strict control over who has what guns?  That's a bit scary, don't you think?  The guys with all the guns (and the tanks, and the nukes, and the drones,) controlling who has the guns.  Our national government is so overpowered, it no longer has to obey the constitution, and fails to do so, constantly.  Why do you find it appropriate to sacrifice our very last means to overthrow a tyrannical government?  Will people magically stop wanting to kill each other, then?  None of this will fix the U.S., it will only change the U.S., but it will not fix our problems, merely solve a problem to generate yet another problem, which is, more regulation and more dependency on the government to live.  Welfare doesn't need to be changed, it needs to be removed.  The government needs to stop trying to correct the individual's problems; the government is not our father, it is not our God, it has no business in the private lives of its citizens, and giving it all the power in the world by allowing it to choose who has what weapons is a terrible idea.

Though I do agree that education is a top priority, it should not be a priority of the government.  The government should not own any schools, and should not force people to attend them.  Schools should be 100% privately owned, without any influence whatsoever from any governing body.  People should stop paying taxes on schools they do not want to attend, and instead, use that money to fund their kids education in the way they want to.  Now, the government has proven that it will do what it wants with the money it forces out of you.  That's why the military is so bloated.  Nobody, nobody, wants our military to be this big, and yet it is.  Despite any logic and reasoning (except for the obvious; why else would any nation need a giant military?), our military is bigger than the next biggest militaries combined.  How do we solve this problem?  It's not by playing the game of politics; it's by stopping that which has the power.  There should be exactly a 1:1 ratio of how much voting power a citizen has over how many citizens there are.  There's a reason why the 1% has so much influence.  It is because there is a central authority we all pay tribute to, without choice, who can then use that money in however way they see fit, and who accepts the biggest bribe from the biggest corporate empire.  Our government doesn't work for us: we can hardly call it our government.  They simply act on their own accord.

So who is they?  And why should anyone feel the need to become them?  Because they want power.  They want to be them.  I don't like that.  Politics works like this: we rob Peter, and then we pay Paul.  That's all it does and will ever do.  Unless your party revolves around cutting the national government's ability to tax, thereby killing its ability to rob Peter, I see no reason why to pretend it has any hope of solving America's biggest problem.  We're facing a crisis, a civil war between the rich and their livestock.  There is no left, and there is no right.  It's simply who has control over whom, and the American people haven't had control over their own lives for a long time.  That's the America we want: the America in which we are free.  Everything else is a distraction.

About the left, I prefer the non-authoritarian, non-statist versions (worker cooperatives and all).

Your approach sounds centralized, so how are you gonna squeeze 'em taxes out of people's brainwallets?
