Hello,

My name is Steven "Rapture" Nekhaila and I am a long standing member of the Cryptocurrency industry as well as the Liberty movement. For those of you who may not know, the Cuban government has tight restrictions on the internet as well as everything else in their country, controlling every aspect of day to day life and commerce, and thereby creating the conditions for poverty and constraint. I believe that cryptocurrency is a liberating force, a subversive element in a world ruled by central bankers, dictators and manipulators. I believe cryptocurency has the ability to lift people out of poverty, to be out of grasp of government regulators, and to allow people to live their lives with prosperity at their own discretion. I want to help bring cryptocurrency to the impoverished people of Cuba, and we have people on both sides willing to make this happen. The Libertarian Party of Cuba, AKA Partido Libertario Cubano - José Martí https://www.facebook.com/PartidoLibertarioCubano/ has been under constant pressure by the Cuban government since their inception, they have had their members arrested, beaten and abandoned, while being routinely harassed by the Cuban secret police. They risk their lives, liberty and prosperity on a daily basis for simply wanting to be recognized as a political party (the Communist Party of Cuba is the only currently recognized party) and to be able to read books on economics and philosophy in their own residences. Partnered with members of the Libertarian Party of Florida and associated movements, we have support state side that would be able to make this happen, myself included. I am a resident of the island of Key West in the Florida Keys, famous for being only 90 miles from Havana, Cuba, and I am in a position to set up com devices that would be able to broadcast and receive signal to the island nation. We also have people that frequent Cuba often, myself included, who would be able to setup or deliver simple equipment on the Cuban side for sending and receiving data. My question to the community is, would be it feasible to propagate the Bitcoin network over HAM radio or some other sort of long range communications system 90 miles and be able to communicate with a Bitcoin client, and would we somehow be able to relay data 90 miles back in a relatively cheap and effective way? If this is possible, I think we would be on the verge of liberating over 11 million people economically. I am currently in contact with the members of the Libertarian Party of Cuba thanks who have internet only in the form of visiting embassies who provide internet access, perhaps this could be a missing link as well? We could use the communities help for guidance and ideas.

There are projects to build a new, decentralized internet. I heard from another project, that uses regular wifi routers to build a decentralized  p2p network (mesh network). There is still the possiblility to use your analogue telephone to connect with a dial-up connection.

We have been pretty active down in Cuba with our first generation, mesh technology (including having our app being distributed via the weekly package), but the key is not mesh networking hardware... it has to be an entirely software based approach and capable of running on any smart phone (without rooting the phone), or at least that is our opinion as this is the only thing that will truly allow the network to grow fast enough to be valuable/useful.

We have been working on something like that over at www.Rightmesh.io  -- Let me know if you have questions.
