Recently, I've done a lot of research on altcoin announcements, appearing on this subforum.

Though the number of coins being announced seems to be strong, their popularity clearly is in decline.

The formula I came up with after weeks of research is this:

for time >= ~june 2013,
Popularity(time) = ((2561 / 153.52) * 891.97 + (3.5801 * pi)) * t * 0.0

Creative extrapolation using this formula gives us my prediction on the future amount of random coins being announced:

We can rest safely, as the craze will be over soon Smiley

I agree, there's a few coins that are doing well; the 'classics', like litecoin, and some new ones, like WDC/DGC/Phenix(i'm in doubt here)/maybe some I forget..

But most of those deliver something new (fast times/proper retargets/nice launches/great communities) while the most just bring CRAP (mindless clones of previous new coins/premined shit/stupid names + logo's) purely meant for enriching the dev.

Not that I really mind, it's kinda funny to see the sixtillionth crapcoin being released, and to see some actually start mining it Cheesy

Hence, Abstract Coin to the rescue.

Sorry, I should have included that one in my list of coins that will succeed Cheesy

I agree in that WDC/DGC were good in their implementation.  Not exact clones but still just tweaks of existing coin models.  I don't want coin development to die but I'd like to see this garbage coin process sped up so we can get through it and on to the next generation of coins ones that have significant development done.  I hope that people are starting to get sick of them.  Well by them I do not mean A B and C coins.  those are truly unique products in this market place.
