Forgot my Coinbase password...

So I chose to reset my password. I enter me email address, they send me an email...which says we'll send you ANOTHER email to prompt you to change your password. But this email will arrive IN 24 HOURS.

What the fuck?

Every post I've made supporting Coinbase, I take it back.

Coinbase, if you're listening, get your shit together. You need to run your business as if it was a fucking real business. I should be getting an "reset your password" email within 10 minutes. Full stop.

I had the same problem with Coinbase around 2 years ago.
I couldn`t login and contacted customer support. They told me to use some two factor verification app and contact their customer support to solve this issue.
I`m happy that i don`t use Coinbase anymore.

What's the problem? Is coinbase not a good wallet?

it depends on what you mean by "good".

in my opinion Coinbase is a very convenient place for starters who want the feel of the old systems like paypal to open up an "account" and have something they call wallet. you can buy and store bitcoin in the same place and it is all easy to use and user friendly.

but you are sacrificing a lot of things. your privacy for starters since you have an account and you are not using bitcoin really you just use coinbase which sends and receives bitcoin on your behalf.
and not to mention they have full control over your funds. they can see fit to close your account and block your money (bitcoin).

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

Coinbase is one huge platform that have a lot of client base and would prefer to tell one client you need to take a chill. I think the 24hours they said could be the maximum but if its an automated message, I guess there is no other choice to than for you to wait for the next 24 hours and when that happen, you better start looking for alternative if you are convinced you no longer want to patronise them again.

I don't get it! coinbase tries to secure your account and prevent hacks in case your Email was compromised (by adding that timeframe) and you are complaining? besides it is a third party service with certain rules and plans. if you don't like it then don't use it.

expecting more from services like this is as wrong as expecting less. Coinbase is what it is. it has some advantages and some disadvantages. the example of OP is just one of the disadvantages of using third party services.

Coinbase is a good wallet with maximum security but of course they have worst ever support among all other wallets.
You should take long breath and stay impotent waiting months because they can''t listen even, can't reply if you contact their direct support.
It feels a weird experience when you are unable to take effective action. on coinbase , you are really helpless.

Agree. Because it is not about some social media account, it is about your money. I think this is the most minimal security option, and it should be increased to several days.

As a trader, I can understand the frustration here. But at the same time, this is the easiest way for hackers to drain your account, and time is of the essence. I'll bet this saves a good deal of customers. Last time I changed my password, Coinbase sent me an automated text message. Presumably, if someone tries to reset your password, same thing.

That means if a hacker has compromised your email address and is trying to get into your Coinbase account, you'll know. And there is a 24-hour period for you to get in touch with Coinbase support and have them freeze your account while you secure everything.

Like I said, I get the frustration, but you'd be feeling differently about this if your account had been drained in a matter of 10 minutes. Then you'd be arguing for the opposite. Having to reset password by email should be a once-a-year or once-in-five-years occurrence, so the wait is a good precaution.

24 hours is the max I, and basically the majority of the people are comfortable with. If you stretch it out to a few days, it will turn into a situation where a whole lot of complaints will flowing into Coinbase's mail/support box. 24 hours gives people enough time to instruct Coinbase that something is happening with their account, and thus to discard all changes made by whatever malicious entity. HabBear's frustration will turn into understanding when everything cools down (unless it turned into an event causing him to lose money). In some cases you badly want to open or close a postion, but can't do so due to whatever circumstances forming a temporary block, and this definitely fits in that category.

I can see you're angry because you were not able to use your funds but maybe they do that to keep your currency safe? Its a extra step from their side to make sure no one else is trying to get into your account, although IMO it should have been optional feature so only users who want it active can keep it and others can use instant password reset.

Not worst than Xapo. They send you SMS/email every ~6 hours during 24 hours and you need at least 24 hours to be able to reset your password. So if you needed to make a transaction asap, somply forget about it.

Me too I find this irritating but as a security step, I understand it. After all, if someone is trying to hijack your account (after taking control of your email) you will find this step very useful

I havent able to use Xapo eversince but those kind of security measures can really piss you out specially when you are in a hurry that is why if you are a person who have short tempered and transactions are fast moving then these exchange wallet wont really suits you up on your needs.I have been using coinbase and i dont have any problems at all since i dont really change password everynow and then.

Yeah, but that's a pretty long delay, and I can understand the frustration.  That would drive me batty--but only if I still had a coinbase account.   They nuked me a couple years ago, though it was pretty much my fault.

They do need to get their shit together, but they're still one of the most reputable exchanges around.  Don't know why they feel the need to delay that email verification thing.  Most other businesses send those within minutes.

Yes, and here's exactly why.

I click the "Forgot Password" link.

They send me an email that says:

Quote
We have received your request for password reset from an unverified device. An E-mail with a reset link will be sent to you in 24 hours. Alternatively, if you request a password reset from a previously verified device it will be processed immediately.

This 24 hour review period is designed to protect your Coinbase account.

This is excessive and if there were a hack they're allowing the thieves to have a 24 hour head start. If they were concerned about the security of my account they would contact me immediately at the contact information they have on file. Instead, they've slowed down any activity I was trying to conduct.

It's been 20 hours so far.

In the 4 hours they have left to respond, I'll be getting verified on other exchanges and make plans to move my holdings elsewhere. Coinbase is a liability when they are non-responsive during times of perceived crisis.

Reset by email is appropriate. The frustration is that Coinbase is making me wait 24 hours before I can proceed to change my password.

As a test I went to Bitstamp and clicked the "Forgot Password" link - I was immediately sent a password reset email to the email on my account.

To finish this off, the 24 hours have passed and I've still not received the email from Coinbase that's supposed to initiate the change in password.

What are we to make of this?

Coinbase policies are bullshit or just not policed?

That Coinbase doesn't stand by their word or follow through on promises?

That Coinbase can't be trusted?
