Might as well post this here since I'm trying to get my five posts!

I opened the port 8333 in my router's settings and it worked, but for some reason when I try to do it for 8332 it has no effect. I do the exact same thing and when I check the port it's closed.

I've been having issues connecting to BTC Guild because of this (I assume), "Problems communicating with bitcoin RPC" fairly often. Practically no point in mining until I get this ironed out, so any ideas?

Thanks

It's a Dynex Wireless G.

If bitcoin opened the port wouldn't http://www.canyouseeme.org/ report it as open?

Maybe you have some firewall software on your pc?
What os are you running?
Would this cause a problem connecting to a mining pool? I wouldn't of thought so..

When you connect to a pool on port 8332 I don't think you actually need to set up port forwarding since it's an outgoing connection.

The port 8332 forwarding is for the bitcoin client to allow peers to make incoming connections to it.

I think your RPC problem may be related to something else.

No firewall software

Windows 7 64

hmm, if it's not a port forwarding issue, I wonder what it could be. The pool's issue? Other people don't seem to be saying much about this problem with BTC Guild.

you don't need to open any inbound ports to mine or run the bitcoin client.  You don't even need bitcoin installed to mine - it just needs to be able to get OUT of your network.
