You must always use escrow , one way is to ask seller to create a sale on bitmit.net so you can use their escrow system.

You showed a random btc transaction + a writing message that you could have wrote by yourself + nothing proving that you did not receive the money.

I simply followed up here, lost BTC and moving on.  I have positive feedback, he has none.  That's what I would be looking at to decide who to believe.  And I don't see him responding here, so that sounds pretty evident to me.
