Sounds impossible. Your friend wouldn't have been able to send anything to a wrong address format. The only way he could send to a wrong address was if the address does actually exist. In this case, it does not. No crypto address exists just by adding 1 character at the end. So, tell your "friend" he has probably lied to you. If he told the truth, he could send you a transaction ID that you can verify by looking it up on the blockchain. I bet he can't. Beauty of the blockchain isn't it?
Don't want to bear bad news, but sounds like you got tricked.
