Not Bitcoin. So you need to post in the altcoin thread per the pinned instructions above.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? A: Top-posting. Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

You can try out new coins which is available to pre-mine as they have low difficulty on the start. You can check the ANN section to see the upcoming coins as of this date. I also suggest the you should also look for the algorithm per coin, if its Cryptonight just like XMR then go with those kind of coin.

Don't. Laptops have bad cooling systems and they can easily overheat resulting in irreversible damage. Most laptops also don't hash very quickly and most of the time it's not worth mining on them. Keep your laptop for normal use and not for mining, for mining use desktops or open air rigs. Even with free electricity profitability will be marginal at best. If you are trying to educate yourself about mining doing it for a short time is ok, but even with free electricity do not mine on a laptop.

i agree with this, laptop tends to overheat fast even if you dont start to mine yet and it would likely prone to damage if you still insist to do it and also not all laptops are slow or dont hash quickly rather it depends on the model or specs of a specific laptop. @op i suggest to only use pc and build up a mining rig or buy a mining hardware if you really want to do mining as a hobby or a profitable task.

You could mining monero in your laptop. I have same condition with you, I have free electricity and I used my laptop to mining AEON in minergate.

Risking to BBQ the laptop while using minergate sounds like an aweful idea. Why not using a proper mining software?

If you have a laptop with a reasonably high hashrate that you don't mind destroying as you run it 24/7 with a poor cooling solution, then you may as well take that laptop and sell it, then use the proceeds to trade for coins to speculate with.

This is way too harmful for your device. Laptops aren't really suitable for mining cryptocurrencies. And even though you have a free electricity, your laptop might get irreversible damages because of excessive heat, and this will cause you your device. The cryptocurrencies that you will get is even not enough to buy a new mouse.

Run some masternodes on it - I've used both XenServer and Oracle Virtual Box to run nodes and staking wallets. It's a great use of older gear, uses next to nothing in power and has excellent long term ROI on the coins you buy. For a full list check out https://masternodes.pro/My masternode favorites are CRAVE, CROWN, TX and PIVX.
