Hi guys,

I got my ledger nano S stolen last week as it was inside my bag. There was 4 Ether on it. So I've tried to recover the Ether using the seed phrase.

Bitstamp is stated on the ledger website as one of the wallets to do this with. After successfully recovering the wallet to Bither, I realised Bither only supports Bitcoin. What has happened now? Did it physically try to move the Ether in the blockchain to the Bither wallet? Or did it only try to move any Bitcoin that was in the wallet. (which there wasn't) What should I do now?

It doesn't state clearly online which steps to take to secure the ether to another wallet. Can I still restore through other methods or are the Ether somewhere with Bitstamp?

Thanks for any help,

Timo

No.  If Bither doesn't support Ether, then it didn't touch your Ether at all.

Or did it only try to move any Bitcoin that was in the wallet. (which there wasn't) What should I do now?

It probably didn't try to move anything.

It doesn't state clearly online which steps to take to secure the ether to another wallet. Can I still restore through other methods or are the Ether somewhere with Bitstamp?

Unless the bag thief has figured out how to steal your Ether, they probably haven't moved at all yet.  You need to find an Ether wallet that supports the same 24 word seed phrases as Ledger so you can recover your Ether there.  I don't know much about Ether wallets, but certainly you should be able to buy a new Ledger Nano and recover to that.

No... nothing "moves" anywhere... the coins are not moved into new wallets etc... all the transactions reside within the blockchain for the specific coin.

You can use your recover seed in 5 different wallets at the same time and they'll all show the same addresses/coins/transactions... So, in theory, your ETH should still be sitting in whatever addresses it was in when you received them.

You might find this guide by Ledger useful: https://ledger.groovehq.com/knowledge_base/topics/restoring-your-ethers-eth-or-etc-without-a-ledger-nano-s

It explains how to get your private keys from your seed... so you can then import those keys into something like MyEtherWallet to recover your funds.

Okay, thanks !

Yeah I ordered a new ledger nano s, but it takes a few weeks to arrive. Therefore I wanted to move the Ether before that.

It seems MyEtherWallet is the only wallet compatible to move Ether from the ledger account. Thanks for that link, I was trying to figure out how it works as it gives me about 20 keys. Can I use any of these?

Apparently it is possible to directly enter the wallet with MyEtherWallet using the mnemonic phrase and find the balance and private key there!
