Vulnerabilities in the Zerocoin protocol allow you to block user transactions and double waste
In the cryptographic scheme of the Zerocoin protocol, vulnerabilities are discovered, one of which allows attackers to "double waste" by burning coins of other users. This was reported by a team of researchers at the German University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU), led by cryptographer Tim Ruffing.
As emphasized in the blog of the Faculty of Engineering FAU, the vulnerability revealed does not affect the Zcash blockbuster, which partially borrowed elements of Zerocoin. Other crypto-currencies that use this protocol can still be vulnerable to attack.
