Electrum wallet and Bitcoin Gold

hi,

i am beginner and wanna get some more information.

before fork i've transferred my BTC on electrum wallet.

fork is done now, how can i claim my BTG ?

these are information i have gain so far:
i need to export my private keys from electrum and when BTG wallet will be available then i can get them in that wallet by importing my private keys.

is it correct ? because i would like to transfer my BTC to bitbay exchange and start to trade again.
is it safe now to do this? i need to admit that i'm scared i will loose or mix my BTC with BTG...

please help.
