It disappears... no, only joking. Tongue

Considering that all transaction confirmations and mining and the blockchain are not in any way dependent on YOUR computer... the transaction will complete successfully regardless of whether or not your computer is on, or your wallet is open and running.

How do you think paper wallets work? You can't exactly plug your piece of paper into the internet Tongue Roll Eyes

All the transactions are contained within the blockchain, which is nicely replicated across thousands and thousands and thousands of nodes around the world... they all contain the complete list of ALL bitcoin transactions that have ever happened. So, when you power your computer/phone/tablet back on... and reconnect it and sync up your wallet, any transactions received while offline will be found and added to your wallet.

What if I receive a bitcoin when my computer is powered off

Depends on how you're receiving your bitcoin. If you're receiving it through an online wallet, then it's just there, waiting for you to do something about it when you reconnect to the internet.

But if you received it through a paper wallet, then just accept the bitcoin and when you get home, turn on your computer to print out the wallet. Tongue

If you receive a transaction the bitcoin are essentially tied to the private keys of the address you're receiving the transaction with. So if you've got a desktop wallet installed and and you happened to have got it shut off when you received a transaction, you will still be able to see the transaction in your wallet. It may take an additional couple of seconds before it shows on the logs of your wallet but the reason for that is your computer syncing up with the network.

You can't, once you setup a bitcoin wallet your computer MUST run 24/7 if you don't it will create a subatomic implosion creating a blackhole tearing time and space apart stranding us in oblivion. The sky will fall and mountains will crumble. Don't EVER! turn of your computer! The consequences could be beyond comprehension.

You never really "receive" BTC to your computer.  The important thing that you may choose to store in your computer is your private keys.  You may also choose to store them offline.

The only cases when you would not receive your coins are:

-You do not know the private key associated with the address that received funds (in which case they are not your coins)
-All nodes and miners in the world simultaneously shut down and all electricity is destroyed

If you're not a miner - no need to care about PC status)))

Just make backup of your private keys, time to time
