Hi,

This my first post on the forums. I'm the CEO of a fantasy soccer startup (draftfantasy.com).

We develop a draft-style fantasy sports game for football (soccer). Currently we offer games for Premier League, Champions League and MLS. We will be moving into more leagues and sports in the future.

We've been discussing the idea of doing an ICO (as every other startup is doing). I wanted to hear people's thoughts on doing an ICO for fantasy sports. Creating a fantasy sports game on the blockchain to the style of DraftKings, FanDuel, Draft, ourselves (Draft Fantasy) and a few others.

It would make sense for a few reasons:
1) Rake would be far lower if run on the blockchain. Fantasy sports sites currently take a rake of 9-15%. People have been quite upset with DraftKings recently for raising their rake.
2) Almost complete transparency. I say almost because the chain would still have to rely on an Oracle to provide the stats to reward the winners.

The difficulties with it:
1) You need a certain critical mass of users to make it work. DraftKings can offer multimillion dollar prize pools because it spent a shit tonne on marketing. For a new initiative this isn't initially possible. DraftKings were able to subsidise early games and guarantee prize pools, but using the Blockchain I don't think this would be possible.
2) Reliance on third parties for stats. It would be an Oracle's job to provide the data. This isn't so much a problem as there are many reliant stats providers out there. There is a certain cost to getting these stats however (thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars per year per sport).

I know there are ICOs coming out daily. This is just another ICO, but the value proposition is clear enough if done properly and if a critical following could be acquired. I'm aware of a few casino ICOs in the past. Some seem to have been relatively successful in raising money and some seem to have put together decent products.

I would be interested to hear people's thoughts on the matter and what the potential problems that arise ahead may be.

Elie
