Hello,
I want to build my first mining rig. I read somewhere in this forum that the popular Celeron G1840 processor may not be powerful enough for some algorithms. I want to install up to 6 GTX 1080(Ti) for Monacoin/Vertcoin mining.
An alternative processor which I have in mind is the G3260 (2x 3.3 GHz). Or should I better install an Intel i3?
The cost difference between most socket 1150 Pentiums and Celerons shouldn't be too big, if you're looking in the right places. Pretty much any Pentium should be fine running your GPU rig.
If you think you'll want the CPU for a later desktop (possible, but Haswell/Broadwell are only getting older), then you may be able to justify the i3. Otherwise, a Pentium G3260 should suffice.
