I'm mining mostly as a hobby, looking for recommendations on low difficulty coins.

I started with FTC and built up a bunch, looked at PXC...but i'm looking for something low difficulty but not dead yet.

Check SOILcoin
here is a free pool and also integrated calculator https://megapool.io/soil

seems like there domain has expired, site is not even online Sad

It depends what mining hardware you are using. As for me, i've got free electricy and free 7850 which that gives about $0.3/day on cryptonight algo if coin doesn't shoots the moon, also u can try to search old forum topics about old coins which aren't upped by fresh posts and keep 'em in secret. Just check every with CMC, but it could take a whole day to find your "today's diamond">

Any cryptonote coin is good for mining. Just stay away from Monero as that one has a very high difficulty now. I am currently mining ETN and will hold them. They seem to be a good project.

Every new coin at the beginning will be low difficulty.
