downgrade from 3.0.0 to 2.9.3

Hello,

I made an update from version 2.9.2 to 3.0.0

As my System is Windows 7, 32 bit, version 3.0.0 was not working.

So my question is: Can I downgrade from version 3.0.0 to 2.9.3 without losing anything. Does this work.
Or must I upgrade to version 2.9.2 because this was the version I had before the update to version 3.0.0?

What do you suggest?

(I did not made a backup before the update to version 3.0.0)
Simply concerned to lose anything.

I do not think it is possible to downgrade, since there have been big changes to 3.0

However. If yo have saved your seed then you can install the older Electrum and restore it with your seed.

So you have Electrum wallet but with no seed and you use only private keys.If you have your private keys now then is safe to download latest stable version 2.9.3 and import your private keys,you will not lose anything.Though it would be wiser to use Electrum with seed,and for that you need to send your BTC to that new created wallet with seed.

You should read about version 3.0.0 and that many have problems on all operating systems,especially on Windows 7.Until a stable version appears it is better to use 2.9.3.

You can simply downgrade to version 2.9.3... the wallet format is only upgraded when you actually run v3.x and click the "OK" button when it warns about the wallet file upgrade.

As your version is crashing on startup with the python error, your wallet file will not have been touched. You can safely install v2.9.3 and everything will be OK.

In other news, v3.0.1 has been released... which *might* help fix the Windows 7 issues...

Note: Some old versions of Windows might need to install the KB2999226 Windows update.

Write your private keys on a piece of paper, make sure you double check if you didn't make any mistakes.
Then delete your current Electrum application from your PC and install the older version 2.9.3.
Import your private keys to Electrum and you should be fine.

I have just tried the v3.0.1 "Windows Installer" (https://download.electrum.org/3.0.1/electrum-3.0.1-setup.exe) on a Windows 7 64bit VM... and I was getting the Python3.5 dll error...

So I downloaded the Visual Studio 2017 VC++ Redist package from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads

After installing that, v3.0.1 works without any issues on my Win7 install!

Just use the portable version, anyway you always can open a wallet.dat on your portable version. Everything is stored in that file anyway, so I don't think you'll lose anything, especially if you are afraid to lose your private keys. So it is really advisable to backup your wallet.dat files so in case there might be problems you'll sell have everything. Anyway, you should also keep your mnemonic safe in case there are problems as well with your wallet.dat files.

Thank you. Downgrading to V2.9.3 worked without problem.

I did not find any wallet.dat in my "not partable version". But I found a wallet folder with my wallets. But they do not end with *.dat

People just call it wallet.dat out of habit (as that is the default name used by Bitcoin Core, and I believe at one point in earlier versions, Electrum was using electrum.dat)... However, as you have noticed, current versions of Electrum default to using NO file extension... All the wallets are just "walletname"... with NO .dat extension, eg. The wallet generated by default is simply called "default_wallet".
