I sent several hundred dollars in USDT from my Bittrex account to Bitmex. The transfer did not go through. Bitmex says to contact Bittrex. Bittrex says they can't help.

Here is what I got from Bittrex: "Unfortunately this is outside our realm of support, you will need to research how to remove a private key from a XBT address and import it into a USDT wallet to recover these coins. You will need to do the research as we can no longer be of any further assistance on this issue."

I have no idea on how to proceed from here.   Has anyone ever dealt with this issue? How do I proceed to getting this resolved?

Am I supposed to ask Bitmex to remove the private key?  If they agree to do that, then what is the next step?

I think this is a compatibility issue did you send your bitcoin directly to  USDT address?
Look at this thread looks like its the same issue you got.. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2102982.0

Base on what i read you need to download Omniwallet core
But i don't see next step for it but you can read this wiki to guide you https://github.com/OmniLayer/omniwallet/wiki

Here is the response I got from Bitmex:

That is not possible. It is a multisignature address and the private keys are held in offline devices and not accessible.

And, this is what it says on the Bitmex Deposit page:  Any unsupported coins sent here will be lost.

I was in a hurry and didn't read it completely.  But, aside from that, I did not realize that I was sending USDT.

So there is no recourse for me?

What address you send your USDT from bittrex. if you send your USDT from bittrex to none compatible or unsupported you have a chance to wait to reverse back your bittrex or if you send USDT to Other format like directly send to bitcoin and sent its impossible right now to get them back..
We are in cryptocurrency where we can't reverse the payment unlike paypal..

Hope that you learn by now and next time make sure that the address is compatible. Anyway  let me know about the address where you send your USDT?

Not sure what are you asking here. Your post make it seems that you haven't even read the thread before posting here.

From OP's last reply, it's clear that he send USDT to a Bitmex deposit address and they can't do anything because the deposit address "is a multisignature address and the private keys are held in offline devices and not accessible". Which makes it impossible for OP to export the private key and import it in a wallet that supports the USDT token (E.g: Omniwallet).

Also, from OP reply: "And, this is what it says on the Bitmex Deposit page:  Any unsupported coins sent here will be lost." - this can't make things clearer.

TLDR: OP most likely lost his USDT, since Bitmex (the only one that has access to his USDT) won't help him recover his tokens.

I sent several hundred dollars in USDT from my Bittrex account to Bitmex. The transfer did not go through. Bitmex says to contact Bittrex. Bittrex says they can't help.

Why would you do that? What made you think that Bitmex deals in USDT? They deal in BTC collateral only -- no altcoins of any kind. So I'm guessing that when they say to contact Bittrex, they are saying, "We're not going to help you."

Technically, the USDT is likely in Bitmex's possession, because USDT is sent between Bitcoin addresses. But most brokers and exchanges take the position that they won't recover currencies sent to the wrong address.

If you sent USDT to your Bitmex deposit address, then technically they can dump the private key and recover it. But Bitmex is unlikely to have wallet support for it, and is thus unlikely to do anything for you. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you probably need to just take your loss and move on. Be glad that it was only a few hundred dollars. Next time, remember that you should only send BTC to your BTC deposit address.

To answer the question - "Why would you do that? What made you think that Bitmex deals in USDT?" - I didn't realize that I WAS doing that.  It was a mistake.  I took the money out of Bittrex while it was in a BTC/USDT trade. Yes - a bonehead move, now I know.  The reason my mind was thinking that was because the only way to transfer BTC from GDAX is to put it into a trade and then siphon off some of the trade to send to another exchange.  So, that process was in my mind.  Yes, hindsight is always more illuminating than foresight.   I assumed that the funds coming out of the BTC/USDT on bittrex would have ended up on Bitmex as BTC.  Now I know!  I learned a painful lesson.  Hope that answers your question.
