Just to clarify things for me.

1] currencies without (*) are POW
2] currencies with (*) are POS

Right?

Late answer, but if you question is about differencing the Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS), the * (star) on coinmarketcap is not for this.

The star means that the crypto has been pre-mined (so the creators are getting all the coins mined during a specific period before the global launch).

Noob when you see * run as fast as you can, Unless it's a proven ICO and legit with a legit concept Cheesy Usually you could find almost all of the POS coins on the second page and beyond. You could determine that by clicking on the coin name to see the more detailed information.

No.The start mark indicates whether the coin is mineable or pre-mined.If there is a star is is pre-mined completely and if there is no star it is mineable
