There are a lot of assumptions being made here about what the OP *ight* have done.  Unfortunately, the OP seems to be refusing to provide the information that is requested to assist them, and the information that they are providing doesn't make any sense.

OP says:

- snip -
I created an address in the "Addresses" tab of bitcoin-qt
- snip -

I don't think there is a way to create addresses in the "Addresses" tab (in Mac OSX, there isn't even an "Addresses" tab, there is only an "Address Book" tab).

If the OP used the "Address Book" tab, then the client does not create an address, but it does let you enter an address from scratch.

It will not however let you enter an invalid address.  Therefore, if the OP actually did enter an address into their address book, then they have to have gotten a valid address "from somewhere" to have been able to enter it there.

That brings us back to the question of what address did they enter, and where did they get it from.

It *might* still be possible to get the bitcoins back, if the OP would just cooperate and answer some simple questions.

Here is the address 1D2HcUrXy2Pu1ow4AWSqWNf4p3C8qSTnba

As you can see it is not a description it is a valid address.

I know it may not be worth alot but it is the fact that I was doing something wrong, and I lost a few days mining to find out.. I want to avoid any more days mining being wasted...and ensure that I make btc from my current mining efforts ... Cheesy

Now we are getting somewhere.  There are exactly 0.10261463 BTC at that address, put there on 2013-06-23 17:01:09:

http://blockchain.info/address/1D2HcUrXy2Pu1ow4AWSqWNf4p3C8qSTnba

So, the BTC appear to have been paid to that address.

Now tell us exactly where or how you got the number 1D2HcUrXy2Pu1ow4AWSqWNf4p3C8qSTnba

Did you type it in?  Did you just find it in your wallet?  Did you press a button to create it?  Exactly what steps did you take to get this exact address into your wallet?

I pressed a button in the bitcoin-qt application in the Addresses tab that says "+New Address", I gave it a label "My first btc address". I then pressed the "Copy Address" button and pasted it in the bitcoincz setup page ....

When you open your wallet is there a big orange bar at the bottom of the screen, if so what does it say.

On the "Overview" screen are there any transactions under "Recent transactions" ?

In overview, recent transactions is blank, wallet balance does not include the 0.1 from the mining, the icons in the lower right corner of the bitcoin-qt application say "38 active connections to bitcoin network" and "Up to date, Processed nnnnnnn blocks of transaction history" where nnnnnnn is a large positive integer number.

when I start bitcoin-qt, it does not show an orange bar anywhere, in any of the tabs..

BTW, thanks for the patience and assistance here...

They should make a stickie for something like this, "common newbie mistakes"  or is there already a similar one or FAQ somewhere?

Open Bitcoin-QT's debug console (I believe there is a button, look for it).

Copy the address.

Type this:

Code:
dumpprivkey YourBitcoinAddress

If you get the private key, you can either import it to a service such as blockchain.info and stop dealing with bitcoin-qt and get your BTC back, or, if it's too difficult for you, i'm sure a trusted member will extract your BTC for you and send it back to a different address of yours  Smiley

Don't post it here!

Yes, just getting back to this.

Do dump your private key using the "dumpprivkey 1D2HcUrXy2Pu1ow4AWSqWNf4p3C8qSTnba" command as suggested above to see if you have the private key

If it does give you a private key DO NOT POST THE PRIVATE KEY ANYWHERE that will allow someone to take your BTC from you.

However, do report back and let us know if you did get a private key or not.

oh well at least it wasn't a lot - I have read of people who have hundreds of bitcoins locked inside their wallets, desperately trying to remember their passwords. Now that's a mistake anyone can make.
